Maisuma residents protest faulty ration distribution

Residents of Maisuma in Srinagar today held a protest demonstration against the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department (CAPD) for failing to distribute ration to people in a justifiable manner.
The residents came out on roads and raised slogans against the CAPD Department for mismanagement in the distribution of ration.
Maisuma residents protest faulty ration distribution“We are not getting proper ration by the CAPD Department. We are all facing inconvenience as many poor families are dependent on the ration provided by the government. We brought the issue to the notice of the munshi and other officials concerned, but they failed to do anything, forcing us to come out on roads,” said a group of protesting residents.
The protesters blocked the busy Budshah Bridge which led to a massive traffic chaos on the road, which is one of the busiest roads in the city, throughout the day.
“We will intensify our protests if the department fails to provide ration on time. Where will we go in these harsh winter months? The government has failed us on every front. Ration is our basic right,” the residents said.
They gathered their ration cards and burnt them on the road. The residents said the department had failed to do justice to people as they were not getting ration on time for several months.
“According to the new policy of the department, they will be giving 5 kg of ration per person, but it is not going to do justice to them. We are opposed to this move as a few kilos of ration is not going to make any difference in our lives,” they said.
They said according to the new policy of the CAPD Department, they had been told that ration will be provided to each person 5 kg per month. The department has made it mandatory to have Aadhaar cards and many people in the locality were not having these cards and they were not getting ration on time.
The police had to use tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters from marching towards the Lal Chowk.
